Recordist's notes

Wapping is still an atmospheric & interesting part of London by the Thames. Most of the old warehouses have been converted to extremely up-market apartments in gated communities, but the Thames path has been opened up and a few old pubs survive. Every now and again narrow alleyways between high brick buildings lead to old steps that, at low tide, allow one to reach the river beaches, and, at high tide, channel slopping waves to reverberate in the passageway. This recording was made in the kind of dreadful weather that London is famous for - heavy wet drizzle, gusty wind - but happens less and less these days. Passing boats cause extra sloshhing and half way through 4 very well dressed young men pass by singing and speaking French, although barely audible above the river waves.
