Recordist's notes

Technically, this is not a good recording: I had a crackling paper bag in my arm, just an iphone to record and no headphones. The wind of the subway blows into the microphone, but it shows well the atmosphere of the Berlin intermediate worlds. Under the Moritzplatz is a flat round intermediate floor with four entrances and exits, which serves as a pedestrian underpass and subway entrance. I walk around without a goal. A woman with a heavy shopping basket crosses the hall, quietly booming. I accompany her a little. Her murmuring singing overlaps with the clarinet. The clarinetist sits near the subway entrance leaned at a column and plays whenever people appear - in between, he pauses. Sometimes very long pauses (in this recording the breaks are very short). He always plays the same riffs. The reverb is impressive. Few people go and come from all directions. Only when a subway arrives the hall suddenly is full. Almost nobody stops here - there is nothing else to do but exit.
