Recordist's notes
These fields are huge and farmed industrially. A few hedgerows remain and are home for more birds than I expected. A song thrush sings loudly from the one tall tree but takes to the wing to chase off a rival. The birds' flight and fluttering movement ruffling close to the microphones on occasion - a quick but intense encounter. Wood pigeons call, crows, pheasants and skylarks are the background. An early owl hoots in the far distance. Someone is shooting - no idea at what. Shots and bird scarers are a constant in rural Suffolk. Given the agri-chemical onslaught on these fields I guess the, at times, war zone soundscape is fitting.
