Recordist's notes
Nussberg is one of the highest points in Braunschweig and the viewing platform, built on a WW2 military bunker, is very popular for panoramic views over the city (the National Socialists also built a 15,000 seat amphitheatre closeby for rallies - only its outline remains). Behind is the thickly wooded and deeply pitted part of Prinzenpark (for centuries a stone quarry) with many springtime birds. Whilst recording a blackcap the soundscape was soon taken over by a hyperactive kid relentlessly blowing a whistle, accompanied by grandparents (I'm guessing) who had trouble keeping up with him. They pointed out the views, shouted into the bunker remains for its reverberation, and showed him much care. When they moved off the whistle could be heard around the park for a considerable time. It is a very human story, told to the ear as much as to the eye. I have a dilemma, though, at these times of questioning what one records and presents publicly (in this case on the aporee soundmap). Is this a reasonable/legitimate field recording to make? There was/is no way to ask permission. Should it be here?
