Recordist's notes
When I revisited the Glen of the Downs site (where I had lived on a road protest in 1997) I was obsessed with the relationship between the sound of the stream which I remembered so clearly, and the din of the N11 motorway drowning it out. In this recording - a rare moment when I actually stood still for some moments and listened properly to the sounds - you can hear both the N11 and the stream together. I was very interested in the relationship between the two sounds and was still trying to understand what it means to call sounds "Nature" or "Manmade". I am still trying to understand this, because I am not sure the separation is useful. Recorded in 2002 with unknown microphone and minidisc player.
