Recordist's notes
This is the sound of the wonderful Tom van Deijnen AKA Tom of Holland introducing his darning masterclass during Shetland Wool Week 2013. Tom is an exceedingly talented mender of clothes as well as a superb knitter. Meticulous in detail and creative with his ideas, his philosophy on mending clothes is both imaginative and practical. I love this introduction at the start of his class, where you can clearly hear how impressed everyone in attendance is to see Tom's wonderful examples of mended and hand-knitted clothes, and you can also hear some of the busyness and atmosphere in the Jamieson & Smith wool shop during Wool Week - the frequency of the chimes on the door jangling every few seconds signify the huge numbers of folk coming in and out to buy yarn! Listen out for "oohs" and "aahs" as Tom produces his textiles for people to see.
