Recordist's notes
This was quite a surprise. I've occasionally seen Greater Spotted Woodpeckers in the gardens here but they've never stayed long. This is the first time I've heard one actually drumming. It's found a particularly resonant spot in the tall sycamore visible from the bedroom window and has been busy two mornings in a row. Is it really staking out a territory in the neighbourhood? Definitely welcome. The running water sound is a neighbour's water feature, which is constantly present. I wish it would get switched off every now and again.
