Recordist's notes
The Hawick Common Riding festival celebrates the capture of an English Flag in 1514 by the youth of Hawick at a place called Hornshole, as well as the ancient custom of riding the marches or boundaries of the common land. The day begins at 6am with the Drum & Fife band setting out past the Church, playing loudly to "rouse the town". This is the sound of the situation as they passed us beside the Church. There is a nice acoustic, because the sounds of the band passing reflect off the walls of the buildings opposite the church. Recorded with Naiant X-X mics with little windjammers on them, held about a foot apart.
