Recordist's notes

The sheep were all baaing like mad because they had just been shorn. The clipping was all happening in a barn where we couldn't see, but the freshly shorn sheep were all in a tizzy in the main yard, bleating and looking for their friends in the chaos. Shearing the sheep involves gathering them all up then shearing them one by one, then they have to go and find their buddies afterwards, which is made harder because everyone looks different after their haircut. So they are all going crazy in this recording and the noise of the sheep is setting the sparrows off. A noisy day on the farm. It was also a bit windy so I propped the EDIROL R-09 between some rocks in a dry stone wall. The recording has a bit of a strange acoustic because of this, but without the shelter, it would have been pretty difficult to record the amazing sounds.
