Recordist's notes
This is the sound of all the people of all ages who turned out in huge amounts to witness the auction at Jacksons of Reading. It was, for this town, the end of an era marking the closure of the last family-owned department store in Reading. You can hear in this recording how noisy and packed the building was, how many people turned out for the auction, and the chaos as people try to get their bidding cards and find a place in which to stand for the actual auction.
About the place
Reading is a city of about 318,014 people in England, United Kingdom. OttoAnna lists 153 field recordings from here.
