Recordist's notes

This is the soundscape inside Jacksons of Reading when it was still trading in 2011. You can hear something of the acoustic inside, and how all the handkerchiefs that I was trying to buy were under glass in an old fashioned glass display unit with wooden doors. You can hear the buses idling outside, and the sounds towards the end of the recording are of the pneumatic change chute in operation; the sound as the change is sucked up into the tubes, and the sound as it is hurled out again containing change and a receipt. It was the last such tube system in operation in the UK.
