Recordist's notes

This is the sound of a small, green enclave behind the houses of Hart Street. The land is bordered on all sides by tall, Georgian buildings, and divided up into individual gardens. I was on the trail of Catherine Hogarth - the woman who later became Catherine Dickens when she married Charles Dickens - when I found this little patch of green. Catherine was born at 8 Hart Street but, as we learned from a knowledgeable resident, all the houses on the even numbered side of this street were joined together to form a hotel, then divided up again into private residencies, so "Number 8" no longer exists! In trying to hear where Catherine played or grew up as a young girl, the atmosphere of this small green patch and the general ambience of the street is the closest I may get.
