Recordist's notes

After several weeks of non-stop eating, many of the silkworms made cocoons and now silkmoths are beginning to emerge from them. Two days ago a beautiful plush adult male silkmoth emerged from his cocoon and was clearly waiting patiently for a lady moth for funtimes. Finally today at lunchtime, a lady moth emerged from her cocoon. You can tell the difference because she has a huge abdomen filled with eggs. The male moth got very excited and started flapping his wings around like mad, which is what you can hear in this recording. They will stay together for many hours, making eggs that I sadly will not be able to raise, but I am glad they made it this far and it has been amazing to watch and hear the whole process from tiny caterpillar to large, furry moth.
